EGK ECRL Map is a revolutionary iOS app designed to enhance the travel experience along Malaysia's East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), a 665 km high-speed rail connecting Kota Bharu to Westports via key towns. Developed with SwiftUI, this app offers a user-friendly interface for commuters, tourists, and travelers, providing real-time station information and estimated train schedules. The app leverages the iOS device's date to ensure accuracy, making it an essential tool for navigating the ECRL's 22 stations.
The app's core feature allows users to input a starting station and destination from the list: Kota Bharu, Pasir Puteh, Jerteh, Bandar Permaisuri, Kuala Terengganu, Dungun, Kemasik, Chukai, Cherating, Kuantan Port, KotaSAS, Paya Besar, Maran, Temerloh, Bentong, ITT Gombak, Bandar Serendah, Puncak Alam, Kapar, Jalan Kastam (Port Klang), Northport, and Westports. With a dummy location set to Kuantan, the app identifies the nearest station (e.g., KotaSAS) using approximate coordinates and distances. A "Find Nearest Station" button calculates proximity, while a map view plots all stations with orange markers, centered on the nearest point for easy visualization.
Train schedules are estimated based on the ECRL's 4-hour journey from end to end, starting at 08:00 daily as a placeholder. For example, from Kuantan to Westports at 08:00, arrivals are calculated proportionally: Kuantan Port (08:30), KotaSAS (08:40), Paya Besar (08:50), Maran (09:00), Temerloh (09:20), Bentong (09:40), ITT Gombak (10:00), Bandar Serendah (10:20), Puncak Alam (10:30), Kapar (10:40), Jalan Kastam (10:50), Northport (11:00), and Westports (12:00). At 08:03 PM today (Sunday, August 24, 2025), the app suggests the next train as "08:00 (Next Day)" since the current time exceeds the sample start. The "Get Next Train" button uses this logic, adjusting for the 665 km route at an average speed of 166 km/h.
A "Buy Ticket" button links to a placeholder MRL ticketing page, enabling seamless purchases. The app’s map, powered by MapKit, offers a visual route from Kota Bharu (6.1230, 102.2388) in Kelantan to Westports (2.9833, 101.3500) in Selangor, passing through Terengganu, Pahang, and the Klang Valley. Coordinates and distances (e.g., Kota Bharu at 0 km, Westports at 665 km) are approximated from the alignment at https://www.mrl.com.my/en/ecrl/alignment/, with plans for real data integration.
Built with privacy in mind, EGK ECRL Map collects no user data and is ad-free. Its clean design works across iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch, with future updates potentially including live delays via API, multiple daily schedules, and route polylines. The app draws on experience from MRT and LRT projects, ensuring a reliable framework. Ideal for East Coast residents or visitors, EGK ECRL Map simplifies travel planning.
