sqsl Mills is an experimental MIDI note generator/sequencer.
The concept can be described in modular synthesizer terms as seven square-wave LFOs, each triggering a pair of notes—one on the rising edge (A) and one on the falling edge (B). The user interface is designed to allow easy and immediate adjustment of parameters via a group of faders (touch strips), with optional value rotation using the bi-directional SHIFT function.
LFO Parameters
• Rate: Speed of rotation, derived from the master clock source
• Phase: Angular spacing between two notes
• Clock Division: Determines rhythmic subdivision
Note Parameters
• Pitch: CV value from the pitch fader, passed through the global quantizer
• Gate Length: Controls note duration
• Velocity
• MIDI Channel
• Chance: Probability of the note being triggered
sqsl Mills features a pitch class–inverting quantizer, allowing users to select specific pitch classes/notes and optionally flip their pattern.
Notes
• sqsl Mills does not produce sound or audio on its own - it sends out MIDI notes, and optionally MIDI clock messages.
• It is a standalone app (not AUv3).
