The aim of this app is to introduce you to the basic concepts underlying the grammar of Modern English. These are the grammatical rules which you follow automatically when you speak or write, but may not be able to explain or analyse. The app features a book and the interactive exercises based on it. It will enable you to learn the skills and terminology needed for grammatical analysis. It aims to describe the structure of English, not to lay down the law about "good" grammar. However, as you use it, you should become more aware of how effective communication is achieved.

This teaching package has been developed by the University of Glasgow's STELLA project.
