Folate and vitamin B12 play key roles in DNA (genes) and red blood cell production. B12 deficiency damages the brain and nerves, and folate deficiency damages the skin and linings of the mouth and gut. B12 is not found in plantbased foods so vegans and vegetarians may become deficient if they don't take supplements. Use this app to count, track, chart and control your folate (aka vitamin B9, folic acid) and vitamin B12 intake to avoid deficiency. Deficiency in women before or during pregnancy can cause brain and spinal cord birth defects in their children. Folate and vitamin B12 deficiency are also a cause of anemia.
