The years-long success of the Porsche 901 in 1963 was something that even Porsche did not expect. As a result of the Peugeot brand having a model named 901, the model name had to be changed to Porsche 911.

Among the super sports cars, the only model whose general lines have not changed since its first production is the Porsche 911. The overall design details of this iconic sports car are taken from the VW Beetle (Turtle).

The Porsche 911 was generally designed by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, son of Ferdinand "Ferry" Porsche. Erwin Komenda, Porsche chassis department manager, also participated in the design.

Porsche produced 82 of the 901 models it had made before the Porsche 911 name change.
The first Porsche 911s were sold in 1964, with the first customer delivered on October 27, 1964.
The first Porsche 911 models had rear-mounted, air-cooled, 6-cylinder 1991cc boxer engines similar to the 356 models.

However, the significant move of the Porsche brand in the automobile industry was with the 356 model, a two-seater sports car based on the VW Beetle. As a result of the success of the 356 model, the Porsche 911 model emerged to produce a more performance model.
