Centroid Structural Calculator is a handheld calculator with a focus on structural engineering design.

If you are a structural engineer, then this app is for you. We are developing this app for you to use for quick structural design calculations. Use the Calculator when you are away from your desk or do not want to access your sophisticated (but cumbersome) desktop design software or spreadsheets.

The Calculator syncs your calculations between your phone and PC or Mac. And it allows you to annotate your calculation and print PDF reports for your design records. It does not require a persistent internet connection — perfect for when you are on a construction site.

The current feature set:
▪ It does math! Time-saving features with smart brackets and more.
▪ Beam analysis to determine bending moment, shear, reaction, and deflection.
▪ Wide-flange beam tables (W sections) according to CISC and AISC.
▪ Section property calculation for I shapes, solid and hollow rectangles, and solid and hollow circles.
▪ Reinforced concrete section design to calculate required flexural and shear reinforcement, or flexural and shear capacity for supplied reinforcement.
▪ Use metric or US customary units and convert between the two.
▪ Do math with fractions and fractional inches.
▪ View a history of calculations, and reference previous results in subsequent calculations.
▪ Document your designs – annotate your calculations and print to PDF.
▪ Realtime synchronization between devices – see your calculations on your phone, tablet, and desktop computer.

Centroid Structural Calculator works like any other handheld calculator, so it's easy to get started. But when it comes to using the calculation history, documenting your designs, and structural engineering calculations, you may want a quick orientation. Please see the Help function for an overview of these topics, variables and units, and some structural design recipes.

There are many features on our development roadmap:

▪ Concrete design to ACI 318 and other standards (currently CSA A23.3 only).

▪ Wood beam design.

▪ Load case and load combination generation.
▪ Many design calculations we're not even thinking of yet and hope you will tell us about!

Centroid Structural Calculator is new, incomplete, and actively developed. We consider all the ideas and suggestions our structural engineer users submit. Please reach out to us via the Help function in the app or the app ratings below.

Pricing? For now, Centroid Calculator is completely free. Improving and maintaining it will require many development hours, meaning we will need supporting revenue. We will likely offer a choice of in-app purchase and subscription services; we'll figure that out at the same time as we are learning how the calculator can help you.
