I-AGRI® is an easy-to-use mobile-based application by Kshema® for farmers and insurance Point of Sale Personnel (POSP) to map, assess and monitor farm and farmer risks. Geo-fencing the cropland is at the core of the application that uses Remote Sensing and Satellite technology to track Crops, Crop Value, Weather, and estimate Insurance premiums. I-AGRI allows farmers to make informed decisions about their farms and crops while giving POSPs accurate risk assessment to arrive at accurate insurance premiums.
The Company
Kshema was conceptualized by a team of Insurance and Risk Management veterans. Kshema aims to be an Insurance Company in India with predominant focus on the Agriculture sector. Kshema will make available, customized insurance products to every farmer who is a cultivator regardless of land ownership, by progressively harnessing an accurate individual risk assessment framework supported by state-of-the-art fintech modules like Blockchain, Remote Sensing and Artificial Intelligence. Kshema would utilize such state-of-the-art technology in developing new products for other lines of business in due course of time.
I-AGRI is an outcome of our technology vision and roadmap to serve the agriculture sector in the country, specifically the Indian Farmer.
How does I-AGRI work
• POSPs visit farms and enter the details of the farm – farmer, farm boundaries
(polygon), and crop information among others.
• This data is linked to our satellite-based systems.
• The data is analysed in conjunction with historical data resulting in an accurate
estimate of the risks involved at the Farm and Farmer level.
• The system then generates an insurance policy proposal tailored to address individual
farm/farmer parameters.
• Remote sensing technology allows the app to Track/ monitor the progress with
sensitivities to climate patterns added to the system.
• POSPs share specific crop and farm knowledge repositories to help improve output
and revenues.
• Since the system has accurate data about farmers, their farms and the crops – it
allows for efficient claim management.
Upcoming Features of the App
Crop Monitoring:
The geo fenced plot (farms) is monitored for various indices through remote sensing and/or IoT (in future) for any anomalies. The POSP/Cultivators are alerted if any anomaly is detected requesting their attention to the farm.
Weather Monitoring:
Various weather parameters are tracked using Remote Sensing and Automatic Weather Stations. These parameters and predictions are provided to the cultivator/POSP through the app.
Insurance Premium Estimation:
Considering the area of the farm, crop, season and other inputs, this application would provide an estimate of the premium the farmer might need to spend to get an insurance cover against various risks.
Crop ‘Value at Risk’ Estimation:
The activities performed by the cultivator along with the amount he has spent is logged in the app. Based on these inputs the application would advise them on the value of crop on that day.
Crop Cutting Experiments:
This application also helps the POSP capture data pertaining to crop cutting experiment on behalf of the insurance company along with photos and videos with geolocations as required by the Insurer.
We want to encourage the farmer to take measured risks and incorporate innovation in choice of crop, cultivation practices and choice of markets to sell their produce; in short, we want the farmer to realize their entrepreneurial spirit. We want to enable this by creating awareness amongst farmers of downside protection mechanisms through customized insurance products.
