Jean Racine (La Ferté-Milon, December 22, 1639 – Paris, April 21, 1699) is a French playwright and poet.
An illustrious representative of classical tragedy, Jean Racine is considered, with Molière and Pierre Corneille, as one of the greatest French playwrights.
Orphaned from a very young age, the child was taken in by his grandparents and then his godmother, a nun at the Port-Royal convent.
