Michael Owusu Addo, known by his stage name Sarkodie, is a Ghanaian hip hop recording artist and entrepreneur from Tema. His contributions to the Ghanaian music industry have earned him numerous accolades, including the Vodafone Ghana Music Award for Artiste of the Decade. In 2019, Sarkodie won the first-ever Best International Flow prize at the BET Hip Hop Awards. That same year, he took home Artiste of the Decade honors at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. In 2015, Sarkodie was ranked the 19th most Influential Ghanaian by ETV Ghana. His third album, 2014’s 30-track behemoth Sarkology, boasts features from Burna Boy, Fuse ODG, and Davido. The LP won Album of the Year at the 2014 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. He is considered one of the major proponents of the Azonto genre and dance. He has received 107 awards from 191 nominations, including 25 Ghana Music Awards.

Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie’s highly danceable tracks have made him an ambassador of hiplife, a hybrid genre that combines hip-hop with the highlife sounds native to his home country, Ghana.
