The Congress of the Republic of Colombia represents the Legislative Branch of the Colombian state, and is made up of the Senate and the House of Representatives. Its members represent the people, and must act in consultation with justice and the common good. They are, therefore, responsible to society and to their electors for fulfilling the obligations of their investiture. In it, the legislative and administrative functions that govern the conduct of these two legislative chambers are defined.
According to the 1991 Political Constitution, it corresponds to the Congress of the Republic: the constituent function, the legislative function and the political control of the government and the national administration. The main function of Congress being to make laws, that is, to issue general and impersonal norms that regulate life in society of citizens in the national territory.
