The Passion of Jesus in the four Gospels

God wanted to send his Son into the world to accomplish the salvation of men with the sacrifice of his own life, and this tells us very much above all about God himself. In concrete terms, the Cross reveals God's mercy and justice:
a) Mercy. Sacred Scripture often refers that the Father gave his Son into the hands of sinners (cf. Mt 26:54), who did not spare his own Son. Given the unity of the divine Persons in the Trinity, in Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Word, the Father who sends him is always present. For this reason, after Jesus' free decision to give his life for us, there is the gift that the Father makes us of the beloved Son, handing him over to sinners; this donation demonstrates, more than any other gesture in the history of salvation, the love of the Father for men and his mercy.
b) The Cross also reveals God's justice to us. This does not consist so much in making man pay for sin, but rather in restoring man's path of truth and good, restoring the goods destroyed by sin. Fidelity, obedience and love for God, his Father; the generosity, charity and forgiveness of Jesus to his fellow men; his truthfulness, justice and innocence, maintained and affirmed in the hour of passion and death, have this function: they empty sin of the value of condemnation and open our hearts to holiness and justice, because he is given for us. God delivers us from our sins through righteousness, the righteousness of Christ.
As the fruit of Christ's sacrifice and with the presence of his saving power, we can always behave as children of God, in whatever situation we find ourselves.


Or my Jesus, my only hope, I thank You for this great one
book, which you opened before the eyes of my soul. The great book is
Your Passion faced for my love. From this book I have learned
how to love God and souls. In it they are enclosed for us inexhaustible
treasures. Or Jesus, how few are the souls who understand You in Yours
martyrdom of love! Oh! how great is the fire of pure love, that
burns in Your most sacred Heart! Happy is the soul, which has understood the love of

Before the eight-day retreat, I went to my spiritual director, to ask permission for certain mortifications to be done during the retreats, however I did not get permission for all that I had asked for, but only for some.
I obtained the authorization for an hour of meditation on the Passion of the Lord
Jesus and for certain acts of humiliation. But I was a little dissatisfied,
for not getting permission for everything I asked for.
When we got home, I went into the chapel for a moment and immediately heard
in my intimate a voice: «An hour of meditation on Mine
painful Passion has a greater merit than a full year of
bloody flagellations. Meditation on My Wounds
painful is of great profit for you and for Me it procures one
