The contemplation of sacred images leads to the memory and desire of the subjects represented; it is a cognitive and affective dynamic, which starts from the represented image but ends in the real subject; it is similar, we could say, to the function that photographs of our loved ones have, which remind us of loved ones. Keeping the memory and desire alive constitutes an important care of one's faith, the cultivation of one's spiritual life.
Through the worship of the image, adoration towards God, the only one worthy of being adored, is nourished and expressed.
The image is also evangelical preaching. Artists of all times have offered the salient facts of the mystery of salvation to the contemplation and amazement of the faithful, presenting them in the splendor of color and the perfection of beauty. This is an indication of how today more than ever, in the civilization of the image, the sacred image can express much more than the word itself, since its dynamism of communication and transmission of the evangelical message is extremely effective"
Over the centuries the image has managed to convey the salient facts of the mystery of salvation, and even more today, in the civilization of the image, it must be able to recover its fundamental importance, as the image expresses more than the words themselves, in a dynamism of communication and transmission of the Good News.
