The "Arboretum in Podanin" application is a mobile guide created to support tourist traffic in our botanical garden. The application is intended to help raise public awareness of protected species and biodiversity. This will increase the species' chances of survival for future generations. The application supports the promotion of the project entitled "Protection of birds and rare, endangered and endangered plants of our climatic zone by establishing a collection of species and increasing the attractiveness of tourist development in the Podanin Forest District." Activities aimed at creating an Arboretum at the headquarters of the Podanin Forest District began in 2015. The entire project is co-financed by the European Union, the Marshal's Office of the Greater Poland Voivodeship in Poznań and the Provincial Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Poznań.
The application has an intuitive interface, thanks to which each user will be able to quickly find the information they are interested in. The main menu is divided into the following parts: QR code reader, Lexicon, Map and information about the arboretum. The lexicon contains a list in Polish of all species found in the Arboretum. After clicking on the species we are interested in in the Lexicon, the user will be redirected to its own window for that species, which contains a description, photo, information about the occurrence and origin of the species, as well as interesting facts related to it, and a direct link to a map indicating the location of the plant. An additional advantage of the application is a QR code reader, which shortens the way to find the species we are interested in. Just scan the QR code located next to a given species in the Arboretum, and the application will redirect us to the appropriate species window. In addition, the application uses GPS, operating in two modes (online and offline), allowing for instantaneous indication of the application user's location in the arboretum.
