A Child's History of England covers the period of English history from approximately 50 B.C. to around 1669 A.D., with an additional summary of the events leading up to the reign of Queen Victoria.

Charles Dickens wrote A Child's History of England when he was at the height of his powers as a novelist, immediately after the publication of his huegely successful David Copperfield and the acclaimed Bleak House.
