Our History begins in 1985 when the Leaders of the Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP) and the authorities of the Secretary of State for Education, agree to discuss what could be the INSURANCE FOR TEACHERS, in order to find solutions to the health problems of them. Later, a Bi-Partita commission emerged, which presented a project, in which it explained in general terms the characteristics that the nascent Institution would describe and define.

On February 12, 1985, the President of the Republic by decree No.2745 created the Medical Insurance for Teachers attached to the Secretary of State for Education.

Their sources of financing were consigned each year in the General Budget of the Nation and the direct discounts to the teachers, that is, 75% the Government and 25% to the teachers.

The SEMMA began its services in mid-April 1985, at the same time the process of affiliation and the creation of its administrative structures began, hiring clinics and doctors who met the conditions and the capacity to provide a satisfactory service. This affiliation process began with the hiring of 55 clinics, distributed in the three major regions of the country.

We have two own Medical Centers, one in the city of Santiago, inaugurated on July 25, 1995 for the donation of the old hospital José María Cabral y Báez, and another in the city of Santo Domingo, inaugurated on September 8, 1998.

With the entry into force of Law 87-01 of Social Security, Medical Insurance for Teachers becomes part of it and becomes an ARS of Self-Management, which is hereinafter referred to as ARS SEMMA, entering into force with the Insurance Family Health in September 2007.

We feel proud to have been taken as a Model Institution in the creation of Family Health Insurance, due to the experience of years of work as insurance of a nucleus of professionals from our country, with a vision and social mission within society.
