Blue light rays emitted from smartphone screens are the main cause for eye fatigue, dry eyes, insomnia, stiffness over the shoulders and neck, headaches, etc. With this app, you can block this harmful blue light, for free!

Some of us look into smartphones before going into bed, right? And how often do we have trouble getting into sleep?

Blue light is likely the responsible factor. When we sensor a blue light at night, melatonin, a responsible hormone that induces sleep is restricted, causing difficulties to sleep. And if we don’t have a comfortable sleep, it might possibly lead to insomnia and poor quality-sleep.

If we have a poor-quality sleep, fatigue would remain, even with a long-hour sleep.

During a time period of 1982 through 1988, a research study was conducted in the U.S., which revealed that an individual who sleeps merely for six hours has a lower risk of fatality compared to those who have had over 10 hours of sleep.
This result shows the importance of achieving quality-rich sleep, and it cannot be made up with prolonged hours of sleep.

It is presumed that this is due to various stress factors caused by tiredness, which persists because of poor-quality of sleep.

Cancer, cerebral apoplexy, diabetes are some of these examples. All of these mentioned illnesses tend to be caused by fatigue. Also, accumulated tiredness raise the risk of oral disease such as stomatitis and alveolar pyorrhea, other than problems in the digestive organs eg.gastritis, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, and plus the hay fever, hives, and chronic allergic rhinitis. Thus, a good-quality sleep is essential for our healthy lives.

This app effectively blocks the blue light with its five-coloured filtering rays, protecting your eyes and sleep.

What is a blue light?

Blue light is a blue-coloured ray with a wavelength ranging from 380 to 500 nm. It has the shortest wavelength among visible lights by us humans, and it has the closest and strongest energy to UV rays.

Being our closest tool, the smartphones emit these blue lights. Blue light does not get absorbed by cornea or crystalline lens, and reaches the retina. The study shows that when this happens, the longer we are exposed to this light, the more badly affected our body system would be. For this reason, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare guidelines recommends a break of approximately 15 minutes for every hour of working on digital display.

How it will affect our eyes

I assume most of us were taught “not to look directly into the sun”. This is because the strong sunlight damages the retina. However recent studies have found out that by being continuously exposed to even a slight amount of UV rays and blue light would affect the retina, and eventually cause an eye disease.

Also, it is a well known fact that if we use our PC, tablets, and smartphones for too long, it would cause asthenopia and dry eyes. These ‘techno-stress’ were believed to be caused by being in front of the screen display over a long time, reducing the eye blinks, drying the eyes.

However, the latest study indicates that this blue light IS in fact the core factor for eye fatigue. As mentioned earlier, since blue lights have a short wavelength and powerful energy, it forces the eye muscles, eyestrain, provoking stiffness over the shoulder, neck, also causing insomnia, and headaches.

When people tell us that “Getting morning sunlight is my wake-up tool”, or “To recover from jet lag, it is effective to get some morning sunlight.”, it is because the morning sun rays contain a big percentage of blue light, thus it has effectiveness in getting rid of drowsiness. Some measures include avoiding looking too close into smartphones, and directly blocking the blue light. If we take appropriate measures, then it should lead to a smooth comfortable sleep.
