Abbas, who we know as "Foroughi Bastami," was born in Iraq in 1177 AH. Until the age of sixteen, when his father died, he went to Iran and went to Iran with his uncle in Sari after his father's death.
He received no training and learned to read and write himself, and read the poems of the great Persian poets until his language was opened to poetry, and he sang his first poems with the surname "Maskin".
His uncle was a courtier and took the poet's nephew to Fath Ali Shah Qajar and he read the ghazal he had made in the king's eulogy. The king sent the poet to Khorasan to the ruler there. He took up secretarial work in Khorasan, where Abbas changed his surname to Foroughi by the name of one of the ruling sons of Khorasan.
After a few years the ruler of Khorasan was sent to Kerman and then to Tehran. The poet came with the ruler and settled in Tehran.
Foroughi in Tehran tended to mysticism and heeded the teachings of "Bastami" and resigned, hence the name Bastami. The news reached Nasser al-Din Shah and he summoned the poet and became his companion. It is said that Forough Fish once went to the king and the two of them read poetry together.
Foroughi died in Tehran in 1236 AH. His most memorable poem is the sonnet that begins this way.
When did you go from wanting to find out when you were lying to finding you
You have not gone away without seeking to conceal your presence to discover you
