Created by UNIperiferias, the political formation front Be Democracy arises from the need to build an agenda of sustainable changes that makes sense for the groups that live in the periphery. Currently, there are several voices that deny the importance of politics, democracy and fundamental rights, seeing the social world as a place of intolerance and oppression, where the power of the market prevails over everything. Who suffers the most intense impact of this reality? They are the young, black, indigenous and quilombola people who live on the periphery, facing aggression, control and intolerance that are increasingly present.
Be Democracy is a political training center open to all, but with a special focus on young black people from the peripheries throughout Brazil. We seek to create new ways of doing politics and engaging with Brazilian society, and that starts with the idea of a radical democracy. We are developing methodologies, concepts, proposals and actions that allow the organization and mobilization in defense of democracy. Our intention is to form local groups capable of radicalizing democracy in their own communities and territories. In this way, we will be able to build a diversified collective knowledge, to fight for life, social rights and freedom in all areas.
