The Ivorian Press Agency, AIP for short, was created by Law No. 61-200 of June 2, 1961 to allow Côte d'Ivoire to ensure its sovereignty in the collection and redistribution of national information. and global.

Its first head office was at Avenue Marchand (current site of the Postel 2001 building in the commune of Plateau). Then, he successively moved to rue Gourgas (Hôtel Ivotel and avenue Terrassons de Fougères), avenue Bir Hakeim (now Saint-Paul Cathedral), the Cité Administrative (tower E) and, today, at avenue Chardy, in the Plateau.

From a Public Company when it was created, the AIP became a department of the Ministry of Information for many years before being set up as a National Public Establishment of an administrative nature by decree N ° 91-181 of March 27, 1991 as amended. by decree n ° 2013-28 of January 23, 2013.

Endowed with civil personality and management autonomy, it is subject to the administrative and technical supervision of the Ministry of Communication, and to the economic and financial supervision of the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
