The Society has been, for eight decades, the center of meeting, discussion and growth of the country's pediatricians. Its governing bodies do not receive remuneration and maintain a Chilean tradition: work for love. Perhaps the largest medical society in Chile covers the entire country. Bald Mackenna has been followed by a long list that includes leading figures of national medicine.

The Society is part of the evolution of national medicine and its roots are found in the Medical Society of Santiago, the existence of such institutions in neighboring countries and the increase in the number of doctors attending children.
