1. OBJECTIVE
The objective of this experiment is to guide the student regarding the care provided during the patient's bath, ensuring that the basic human need for hygiene and comfort is met.
At the end of this experiment, you should be able to:
understand the importance of performing a bed bath;
prevent infections and skin injuries;
stimulate circulation and complete the patient's physical examination.
2. WHERE TO USE THESE CONCEPTS?
The concepts that will be learned can be used in any type of healthcare environment, even in the patient's home.
3. THE EXPERIMENT
In this experiment, you will have to perform the bed bath technique, a technique widely used in patients with a high degree of dependence on care, who are not able to move around, and this is a practice inherent to the nursing team.
4. SECURITY
When entering a hospital environment, it is very important to observe hand washing and the mandatory use of personal protective equipment (PPE), in accordance with the safety plan determined by local management. This measure aims to preserve the physical integrity and health of people who are exposed to risks inherent to the environment, such as contact with bodily fluids and sharp materials, which can cause accidents and contamination of employees and/or patients.
Speaking specifically about bed bathing, the practice should be carried out in pairs, in order to guarantee the patient's integrity and safety, mainly avoiding the risk of falling.
5. SCENARIO
The environment will take place in a hospital, in a bed in the medical clinic, where several patients are admitted, with a sink right at the entrance to the room, so that the professional can perform hand hygiene. Therefore, in this scenario it must consist of a bed, armchair, hand basin (sink) with tap, liquid soap, paper towel, 70% alcohol (liquid or gel), trash can with pedal, hamper (disposal of sheets and dirty clothes), screen, gas ruler at the head of the bed, patient identification chart at the head of the bed and clock on the pointer wall, ladder with 2 steps and bed separating curtain.
