1. OBJECTIVE
This technique allows obtaining a thin layer of blood on a glass slide, which will later be stained and observed under an optical microscope.


At the end of this experiment, you should be able to:

Make a hematological distension;

correctly use the instruments for making hematological distention;

recognize the error in execution, if any, that gave rise to an inappropriate distension.

2. WHERE TO USE THESE CONCEPTS?
Mastering the preparation of blood smears, or hematological distention, is one of the first steps in carrying out experiments in hematology, as hematology cytology is part of the initial stages of a set of routine diagnostic tests. This procedure is one of the steps in carrying out a complete blood count or qualitative analysis of blood cells. This is a quick and inexpensive method of investigating diseases directly related to hematological cells, or clinical conditions that are reflected in the cells that make up the immune system, such as infections and inflammations.


3. THE EXPERIMENT
This experiment consists of making a hematological distention. For this, some inputs will be needed, such as: slides for microscopy; extender blade; micropipette; collection tube containing blood sample.


4. SECURITY
In this practice, procedure gloves and lab coat, also called dust guards, will be used. Although the practice does not pose a risk to the student, these protective equipment are essential for the laboratory environment. The glove will prevent any possible cut or contamination with blood and the lab coat protects from blood splashes on the body.


5. SCENARIO
The experiment environment features a laboratory bench with clean, dry and degreased microscope slides with the frosted part for identification, an extension slide and a micropipette. You must select and use them in order to guarantee the correct execution of the experiment.
