1. OBJECTIVE
This experiment explores Archimedes' principle. You will observe the effect of the buoyant force that acts when a body is submerged in a fluid in equilibrium.

At the end of this experiment, you should be able to:

recognize the presence of buoyancy due to the apparent decrease in the weight of a body submerged in a liquid;

determine the value of the buoyant force acting on a body submerged in water;

verify that the modular value of the buoyancy is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the submerged body.

2. WHERE TO USE THESE CONCEPTS?
Hydrostatics studies the intrinsic characteristics of fluids, such as their properties, one of these properties is the density of the fluid in static equilibrium conditions. One of the most important studies of hydrostatics is that of Archimedes' principle, which establishes that a solid body submerged in a certain fluid will be subject to the action of a vertical force, upwards, called buoyancy and whose intensity is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the fluid. body.

Archimedes' principle has applications in several areas of engineering, such as the design of vessels and aircraft, measurement of liquid density, and design of flow meters.

3. THE EXPERIMENT
In this experiment you will use a solid cylindrical body with a defined volume and submerge it in a container containing water. Using a dynamometer you will measure the apparent weight force of the cylinder when submerged and compare it with the value obtained before submersion. This way it will be possible to identify the effect of thrust on the cylinder. At the end, you will measure the volume displaced by the cylinder and relate it to the buoyant force.

4. SECURITY
The experiment was designed not to pose physical risks, so you will use objects that are not very harmful and light, but even with these precautions thought out and defined, the use of personal protective equipment is extremely important for safety when carrying out experiments. In this experiment, the use of a lab coat is recommended.

5. SCENARIO
You will find on the bench: the test base and a dynamometer associated with it, containing a measuring scale, a hollow and a solid cylinder, a pissette and a beaker containing distilled water.
