1. OBJECTIVE
The human body is made up of 4 basic tissues that are organized to form organs. Organs organize themselves to form systems, which together form the organism. The objective of this laboratory is to learn about connective tissue, one of the 4 types of basic tissues, and identify its main characteristics and organization. Knowledge about its morphology will help in understanding the functions performed by connective tissue in organs and systems.


At the end of this experiment, you should be able to:

Identify the main characteristics of connective tissue in a histological slide;

Classify the type of connective tissue based on its cell types and extracellular matrix;

Relate the morphological characteristics of connective tissue with its functions.

2. WHERE TO USE THESE CONCEPTS?
Understanding the organization of connective tissue is the basis for understanding the functioning of the human body and for understanding associated diseases and pathologies. Therefore, these concepts are used in the daily lives of healthcare professionals as a basis for identifying pathologies affecting the connective tissue in organs.


3. THE EXPERIMENT
In this experiment, you must dress appropriately to enter the microscopy laboratory. Later, you will be able to choose a histological slide, insert it into the optical microscope, and handle it in order to obtain focus to identify the tissues and cells present there. You can also access videos, summaries and atlases on the notebook available in the laboratory.


4. SECURITY
When entering the microscopy laboratory, we must always be aware of the use of personal protective equipment (EPIS), the use of a long-sleeved coat, pants and closed shoes. The importance of following the security plan determined by management is highlighted. The purpose of these measures is to maintain the physical integrity and safety of all participants in the proposed experiments.


5. SCENARIO
Microscopy laboratories are places for practical Histology classes associated with the use of an optical microscope. In this location, we analyze histological slides at different magnifications, 4x, 10x, 40x and 100x. In this way, we can identify organs, tissues and cells to understand their characteristics and correlate them with their functions.
