The App "Schiedam 1598" is a 3D representation of the map made by the graphic artist Jacques de Gheyn in 1598 on behalf of the city council. De Gheyn not only depicted important buildings on this. He also portrayed mills and activities, looked around city gardens, the shipyards on the Lange Haven and drew ships in the harbors.

The makers of the 3D animation "Schiedam 1598" thus show Schiedam without changing anything in De Gheyn's drawings. This brings the work of the artist himself to life.

With the app, the user walks through Schiedam on the basis of a spoken animation.
But the app also offers possibilities to look around you with GPS - if available on a smartphone or tablet - within the map area at any place in the old city center. The user is then "literally" in the fishing town of four centuries ago. This way you can compare past and present.
