Club Atlético de Madrid is a Spanish football club, based in the city of Madrid, founded on
April 26, 1903.
It was founded as Athletic Club de Madrid by Basque students who supported Athletic
Bilbao. The team from the Spanish capital would cease to be a subsidiary in 1921, when it
broke away from the Basque team. Even so, the similarity of uniforms, names and badges,
originated because of how the Madrid club was created, remained.
