Hong Kong is one of the two Special Administrative Regions (SAR) of the People's Republic
of China (PRC), the other being Macau, situated on the southern coast of China and
bounded by the Pearl River Delta and the South China Sea. It is known for its
skyscraper-studded skyline and deep natural harbor. With an area of 1,104 km² and a
population of seven million people, Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated areas in
the world. The city's population is made up of 95% ethnic Chinese and 5% other ethnic
groups. The city's Han Chinese majority hail mainly from the cities of Guangzhou and
Taishan in neighboring Guangdong province.
