Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras, popularly known as Palmeiras, is a Brazilian multi-sports
club in the city of São Paulo, capital of the state of the same name. It was founded on
August 26, 1914 and its colors, present on the shield and official flag, are green and white.
Red, present since its foundation in 1914, was excluded during the Second World War,
under pressure from the Getúlio Vargas government, at the same meeting that formalized
the name change from Palestra Itália to Palmeiras.
