Ashura fasting is a fast that is carried out in the month of Muharram which falls on the 10th. The law of Ashura fasting is sunna, but this fast is highly recommended by Rasulullah sallallahu'alaihi wa sallam, as his saying:

"The most important fasting after (fasting) Ramadan is fasting in the month of Allah, Muharram. While the most important prayer after the obligatory prayer is night prayer." (HR. Muslim no. 1163, from Abu Hurairah).
