This book presents the figure of Shaykh al-Haj Yusuf Abu al-Mahasin Hadiyatullah al-Taj al-Khalwati al-Maqashshariy or better known as Shaykh Yusuf Al-Makassari. The title of sheikh, which is carried by the son of Makassar, has a universal meaning, which in the history of the archipelago is related to the ulemas who dominate the world of Sufism. He is a historical figure who developed the teachings of religious ethics in his preaching.

His teachings come from scriptures, traditions, and the thoughts of historical figures. He succeeded in bringing Islam as a religion that develops in a pluralistic society, which is rich in traditional views or values.

Shaykh Yusuf is known as a wandering cleric to study with a shaykh / cleric who is known to be qualified. After studying religion in Makassar, his thirst for religious knowledge was continued by traveling to areas in the country, especially Banten and Aceh, as well as Arab countries.

Shaykh Yusuf died in Cape Town South Africa after being exiled by the Dutch colonialists due to his preaching and struggle with the Sultan of Banten. During his four years in Cape Town, Shaykh Yusuf managed to build a solid Muslim community, so that the South African government was awarded the title of national hero.

These are the important points presented in this study of Shaykh Yusuf. In the context of Indonesian Islamic da'wah, the study of Shaykh Yusuf's religious ethics needs to be developed, because his preaching messages reflect Islamic values ​​that are tolerant, peaceful, and far from anarchist acts and terror against other community groups.
