Buya Hamka. His full name is Haji Abdul Malik Karim Amrullah. The first son of Dr. Abdul Malik Karim Amrullah and Shaffiah were born on February 17, 1908 in Maninjau, West Sumatra. He has not completed any formal education. A lot of reading is his capital, don't forget to study directly with leaders and scholars, both in West Sumatra, Java, and even to Mecca. This book does not elaborate on Sufism, even though the title is Modern Sufism. This book remains relevant, even though it was written decades ago. The theme is about happiness, a topic that is never finished being discussed, and that anyone, anywhere, and in any way wants to manifest it.

Written by a broad-minded Muslim scholar, with a literary background, this book is not only rich in meaning, but also enjoyable to read. Let's look at one of his descriptions, “...Various things arise when making a decision. Some say good, because love, some say bad, because hate. Various kinds of decisions based on experience, knowledge, and research....happiness and misery are only centered on the inner person, not on the substance of the object that is seen. For most people, going to jail is an accident and humiliation, for half of them, it's glory and happiness."

Often people seek happiness by sacrificing time, energy, family, and even life. Whereas, happiness is within us, close to us.
