In Gothic lockpicking you have to swipe either left or right to lockpick a chest. Just like in Gothic 1 / 2, the famous videogame where you also had to solve this kind of riddle.

When you were able to solve the riddle and open the chest, you will receive some rewards like more picklocks or some items to get forward in tricky situations.

There are only 3 items in this game to let it stay easy and compact.

The first one is a normal picklock. Picklocks are used to normal unlock chests by swiping left or right like in Gothic. One of the picklocks will be destroyed, when you swiped in the wrong direction. When you have 0 picklocks and no other Items left, the game is over.

The second one is the 75% Key.
As the name says, the key has a 75% chance to solve the next knock, but also destroys a picklock if it fails.
As you can guess, in some situations it could be smart to use this key, instead of a picklock, guessing eighther left or right, where you have a 50% chance to be true with the same risk of destroying one picklock.
On the other side, when you choose to swipe left or right, and you guess wrong, in the next turn you know for sure in which direktion you have to swipe to get the knock and save a picklock. So its your decition if you will get forward in this riddle by using them.

The third item is the Masterkey.
The Masterkey hast a 100% chance to get the next knock, but is also very rare. You should only use it when you have only a few knocks left and dont have many picklocks left to risk. In this situation, it would be very smart to invest you masterkeys, safe your current picklocks and get some new picklocks by opening the chest. But just as the 75% Key, if you fail at a later knock in the same level, you cant be sure in which direction this knock nuber goes and you could not getting forward in the riddle by using them if you fail later.

As already said, the game ends when you have no picklocks or Keys left to open a chest. When you have 0 picklocks, all your keys will be automatically used to unlock the chest, so be aware of this routine.

The goal of the game is to set new highscores and give you a nostalgic feeling about lockpicking just like in the old Gothic games. If for myself always loved to become a thief in the game, sneak around an lockpick all the chests. BTW there are some hidden riddles if you choose to be a thief in Gothic, like the hiddeen island near the harbour. There are some fancy chests in there.

The chests in Gothic lockpicking of course get harder and harder with the increasing levels. You will need more and more knocks to lockpick the chests and set new highscores.

Cool side effect: The next tome when you play Gothic 1 / 2 you will have no problem in picklocking chests and safe picklocks. You probably don't have to buy them ever again.
