Theater arts education in schools requires comprehensive learning materials so that students master the knowledge, skills and attitudes that can be used as a basis for forming intelligent, skilled and broad-minded people. Through theater arts education, it is hoped that people will be formed who are pious, respect each other, care about the environment, and appreciate the differences in the life of a Tunggal Ika diversity society.

Learning theater arts at school is basically education based on national culture which will shape the identity of students. Collective theater arts provide space for students to learn about the diversity of arts in the archipelago. The diversity of art in the archipelago provides a good understanding of the plurality of nations as a wealth that can be used to form one's identity, both traditional art and modern art.

Class 9 Theater Arts learning materials about non-realist theater. A form and style of theatrical performance that has stylistic and symbolic characteristics. Stylistics is a form and style that is exaggerated, stylized, beautified, or refined. It is called symbolic because the style of expression is full of metaphorical signs. Non-realist theater can be found in traditional theater forms, both court-centric and populist. For example, gambuh in Bali, randai in the Minang realm, wayang orang and ketoprak in Java, and so on. In the Western theater tradition, non-realist theater can be found in Classical Greek theater or post-realist theater.

Non-realist theater material in this book includes an introduction to stylistic acting, playing improvisational techniques, designing stories, learning to be a director, designing and creating artistic arrangements, and producing theatrical performances.

This book is a teacher's guide book that is used as a guide in implementing Class 9 Theater Arts learning which refers to Phase D in Learning Achievements. The learning material is the result of processing and development of Phase D which is enriched with relevant book references as well as the author's experience and knowledge.
