Pancasila and the values it contains are the basic philosophy, way of life of the nation, the basis of the state, ideology, the unifying force of the nation, and the source of all state laws. Pancasila as the basis and ideology of the state is a "static table" that unites various existing diversities, as well as a dynamic "guiding star" (leitstar) with the evolutionary movement of human thought. For this reason, it is appropriate for us, the Indonesian people, to actualize Pancasila from time to time and from generation to generation so that the preservation and permanence of Pancasila is always practiced in the life of society, nation and state.
This Pancasila Education Book is the main textbook used in learning in all education units at the SD/MI, SMP/MTs, and SMA/MA/SMK/MAK levels and other forms of equivalent education. This book is present in order to enrich understanding of the Pancasila ideology. The preparation of the main Pancasila Education textbook refers to the Learning Achievements in the Independent Curriculum which have been aligned with the BPIP Competency Achievements.
In its preparation, the Pancasila Ideology Education and Development (PPIP) teaching material book was used as a reference source. The presence of this teaching material book began with the direction of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, who at that time was accompanied by the Minister of State Secretary of the Republic of Indonesia in a limited meeting at the State Palace on February 22 2021 with the Head of the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP). On that occasion, President Joko Widodo reiterated the importance of instilling Pancasila values with methods that are enjoyable for students.
In an effort to fulfill the President's expectations, BPIP together with the Ministry of Education and Culture and Technology jointly prepared the main Pancasila Education textbook by involving a team of writers consisting of teachers, experts and practitioners in the field of education and Pancasila ideology who received an active role from the BPIP Steering Committee, Special Staff to the Chairman of the Steering Board, BPIP Expert Council, and other leadership elements. This book was prepared in accordance with the mandate of Government Regulation Number 4 of 2022 to implement Pancasila Education subjects in the national education system.
The writing of this main textbook is based on authentic facts and history. This book is expected to be a guide on how to understand and actualize Pancasila values contextually so as to restore a correct understanding of Pancasila. Therefore, the Pancasila learning method is used which is student-centered learning. This method can make students more actively involved in real practices and experiences of Pancasila which are in line with the Merdeka Curriculum. The presentation of the material in this book encourages students to explore curiosity, creativity and mutual cooperation in emulating Pancasila.
