This book deliberately discusses one of the important issues in the traditional world, namely the kyai. This problem is photographed in its interaction with traditional problems, namely the santri who are the targets or partners of the kyai's scientific dedication. While the focus determined is the leadership of the kyai and its influence on the ability of the santri to understand the salaf scriptures.

This book is the result of research conducted on the Tarbiyatun Nasyi'in Islamic Boarding School, in Paculgowang, Diwek, Jombang, East Java. In this case, the subjects studied were KH.M. Abdul Aziz Mansur (the caretaker of the hut) and his students.

From the results of the author's research, it appears that its naturalistic character is quite strong. Naturalistic research is one of the qualitative research models. The other four models are: (1) interpretative (2) grounded research, (3) ethnographic-ethnomethodological, and (4) symbolic interaction. According to Noeng Muhajir, the naturalistic model is one of the paradigm models in the development of qualitative research, and is a model that finds perfect qualitative characteristics. This is due to the fact that the framework, philosophy that underlies it, or the operationalization of the methodology is not reactive in nature or merely responds and does not merely challenge the quantitative methodology but rather builds its own framework, philosophy and methodological operationalization.'
