I experienced it myself! I'm a statutory health insurance patient and had to be hospitalized in 2019 due to an accident that wasn't my fault! Up until then, I'd always trusted the doctors, but that changed dramatically since my hospital stay. I was prescribed a medication for at least 6 months (one pill morning and one evening), which I took because, as I said, I had complete trust in the doctors. After just a few weeks, I experienced the medication's massive side effects:
- Heart palpitations
- Abdominal pain
- Suicidal thoughts
- Erectile dysfunction
- Diarrhea
- Loss of appetite
- Weight loss
It was clear to me: I had to stop taking this medication because it would mean DEATH in the long run. After the package insert stated that you couldn't just stop taking the medication (it even stated that you had to take it for life), I tried to get help from various doctors, but no doctor was willing or able to help me. So they'd rather let me die from a side effect! It became clear to me that I had to take my fate into my own hands, so I stopped taking the medication my way, and almost all of the side effects are gone, except for the stomachache I always get in the morning. Here, too, I have to help myself figure out how to treat it, because no doctor has any idea what to do. No doctor takes responsibility here!

As a statutory health insurance patient, I feel completely ripped off. Why do we pay such high premiums if we're then treated so badly by so many doctors? It's important to me that good doctors are well rewarded by the health insurance companies, and corrupt doctors must be punished, even to the point of being fired.

Corruption in the healthcare system must be banned! If hospitals administer medications that aren't intended for the patient in question, then fines must follow, up to and including the revocation of their license!

With this game, you can at least counteract this virtually. With the player character, you can destroy the corrupt doctors, but watch out for the good doctors. You have to spare them, otherwise you'll lose a life! The game is somewhat humorous, but it's a warning to our sick healthcare system!

If I were Minister of Health, I would set up the statutory health insurance system completely differently from the employee perspective. Employers pay health insurance contributions for basic healthcare, also with a sense of solidarity in mind. Employees pay health insurance contributions, which don't go directly to the health insurance company, but rather into a kind of health savings account where they can then choose what they spend it on, within the context of their health, for example, rehabilitation, without having to argue with the insurance company!
