Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras, popularly known as Palmeiras, is a Brazilian sports club based in the city of São Paulo, capital of the homonymous state. It was founded on August 26, 1914 and its colors, present in the shield and official flag, are green and white. Red, present since its founding in 1914, was excluded during World War II, under pressure from the national government, at the same meeting that formalized the change of name from Palestra Itália to Palmeiras.
