Club de Regatas Vasco da Gama is a Brazilian socio-multisports entity based in the city of Rio de Janeiro, founded on August 21, 1898 by a group of rowers. Inspired by the celebrations of the fourth centenary of the discovery of the sea route to the Indies, which took place in 1498, they baptized the new association with the name of the Portuguese navigator who achieved this feat, Vasco da Gama.
