This is a book of interpretation by Imam Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya, Abu Abdullah Shams al-Din Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr, known as Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyya. He was a jurist, hadith scholar, exegete, and a mujtahid Muslim scholar, and one of the most prominent imams of the Hanbali school of thought in the first half of the eighth century AH. Ibn al-Qayyim grew up a Hanbali; his father, Abu Bakr ibn Ayyub al-Zar'i, was the head of the Hanbali al-Jawziyya school. When he grew up and connected with his teacher, Ibn Taymiyyah, his scholarly life changed. He no longer adhered to the Hanbali school of thought in his opinions and fatwas except out of conviction and in accordance with evidence from the Qur'an and Sunnah, and then with the opinions of the Companions and the traditions of the early Muslims. For this reason, scholars consider him a mujtahid. Born in 691 AH (1292 AD), he grew up in Damascus and pursued knowledge at an early age. He studied under numerous scholars in various fields, including interpretation, hadith, jurisprudence, and Arabic. One of his most prominent scholars was Ibn Taymiyyah, whom he met in 712 AH/1313 AD and remained with until his death in 728 AH/1328 AD. He acquired a wealth of knowledge from him, expanded his school of thought, supported it, and refined his books. He remained with him for approximately seventeen years. Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah assumed the position of imam at the al-Jawziyyah School and taught at the al-Sadriya School in 743 AH.
