This Android application is an explanation of the Sriwijaya Expedition to Search for the Lost Route by Bambang Budi Utomo. In Pdf format.
The first part of this book contains the background, aims and objectives of the 2009 expedition; description of Bangka during the Sriwijaya era; expedition routes from Kapur City to Palembang; understanding of Maritime Archaeology and Underwater Archaeology; and regarding the ins and outs of underwater findings.
An explanation of Maritime Archeology and Underwater Archeology needs to be explained, because lay people and even scientists themselves often confuse these two terms which seem to be the same. Also regarding underwater cultural remains, people often consider them as treasures, not as cultural remains of the past.
The second part of the book describes the activities of the expedition and its participants; observing the condition of the sites visited and describing the cultural historical background of the sites based on the results of previous archaeological research; Socio-Cultural observations of current society in order to obtain an overview of how society was in the past; and diving activities in the waters of the Bangka Strait by a group of underwater archeology teams.
The third section contains descriptions of Sriwijaya period ships based on archaeological finds, temple relief data, written sources; a description of shipping routes in Asia, especially Southeast Asia, and commodities during the Sriwijaya era; and the difficulties faced by sailors when navigating the archipelago's seemingly calm waters but are prone to tropical storms and coral reefs.
The fourth or final part of this book contains descriptions of shipping routes, the development of navigation signs on the east coast of Sumatra and the Bangka-Belitung islands in post-Sriwijaya based on archaeological data and written sources as well as ancient maps (Chinese, Portuguese, Dutch, etc).
Description of Upang Village based on Boechari's interpretation of the Kedukan Bukit Inscription; description of Upang Village as a model of Sriwijaya period settlement located on water, including geographical conditions and location, form and materials of residential buildings, means of transportation, subsistence activities, and beliefs related to water; Palembang and the Musi River after Sriwijaya (until now); the role of the Musi River in forming the political-economic center and riverine culture of the Musi River community; the degradation of river culture from colonial times to the present in Palembang; the beginning of settlement on the east coast of South Sumatra and human wisdom in responding to the natural environment where they live in peat swamp areas.
