Process safety is not just about the risks to people. It's also about protecting the environment and natural resources. Process safety focuses on the hazards that can arise from in-process releases of chemical, physical, and biological constituents, as well as from the chemical reactions and explosions that can occur within a process facility.

Process Safety Management is the proactive, systematic approach that a company uses to identify, evaluate, and control processes or operations that have the potential to cause injuries.

Process safety management (PSM) puts measures in place to prevent accidents, but if they do occur, then the right processes will be in place to investigate the accident, control risk and ensure it never happens again.

There are four important reasons why you should implement a process safety management system:
- Failure to do so could result in significant fines and penalties, as well as compensation to injured parties.
- A safety management system is required by several regulatory agencies and standard setting bodies such as ISO, API and the ASME.
- A safety management system is necessary to ensure the safe operation of processes.

Process safety is the set of integrated methods and procedures used in the planning and operation of a process, to mitigate the hazards that may arise during its operation. The most important contributors to process safety are people and the culture within the organization. People are responsible for the following: ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, identifying hazards, following safe work practices, and reporting incidents.

Experts in their field, industrial hygienists are exclusively concerned with the health and safety of people who work in industrial environments. These professionals oversee many different kinds of tasks, including the development of health and safety regulations, the assessment of exposure risks to workers, and the implementation of effective controls to reduce those risks. The need for industrial hygienists is expected to increase by 20 percent over the next decade as organizations continue to seek ways to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses.

An industrial hygienist is a health professional who is responsible for developing and implementing effective occupational health and safety programs in a variety of industries. The primary job duties of an industrial hygienist can include: assessing workplace conditions, identifying potential hazards, developing safety plans, training employees, conducting safety inspections, and making recommendations to reduce or eliminate hazards.

Safety Officers are responsible for monitoring and managing safety from the workplace and in the workplace to ensure that there is minimal injury and accidents. Generally, safety officers implement their control measures using different effective techniques and equipment. Safety officers also inspect the company’s facilities and perform risk assessment to ensure that the company’s employees are working in a safe environment.
