Friday sermons are 'words that are delivered to a number of people continuously, in the form of advice in Arabic, accompanied by intentions and spoken aloud, done standing up if able, so that the goal is achieved.

Fiqh Khutbah in language, is 'words delivered on the pulpit'. Some scholars define "sermons" as 'composed words containing advice and information.

The sermons prescribed in Islam are:

+ Sermon on Istisqa Prayer (prayer asking for rain),
+ Marriage Sermon and
+ Sermon when Wuquf at 'Arafah.
