Kulitan Apps, is an effort to revitalize the endangered traditional Kapampangan Script, Kulitan, through modern application development. Kulitan Apps introduces two application components that targets both Kulitan reading and writing: the KulitanPad and Kulitan Reader.

KulitanPad is a tool that can be used to digitally write Kulitan scripts with its pad and keyboard feature, implementing the idea of modern notepads. With the adaptive labels on both keyboard and output, this expands the usability of the application even to non-Kulitan literates promoting learning and understanding of the script. The application, also features “Card Creator” mode, which is a means of exporting and sharing a created script through customizable digital card images.

KulitanReader, on the other hand, is a tool powered by Machine Learning (ML) that reads and transliterates written Kulitan scripts to Latin equivalents. By capturing an image of a Kulitan script, the application returns an annotated image stating the detected Kulitan scripts on the image, their resemblance to the actual character, and a transliterated text of the entire detected script. With this, however, the reader still has some limitations that circles around the way Kulitan is written through various styles and forms. This is a work in progress that we will continuously improve as the system learns more through various inputs.
