Sonbhadra is the second largest district in Uttar Pradesh. It is the only district in India, which borders four states namely Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar.

Sonbhadra lies between Vindhya and Kaimur hills and its topology and natural environment prompted the first Prime Minister of India Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru to refer Sonbhadra as The Switzerland of India.

Sonbhadra is rich with natural resources like bauxite, limestone, gold, coal etc. The region has 3 cement factories, one of the biggest aluminium plants, a carbon plant and is also called ‘the Energy Capital of India’ with generation of 11000 MW of electricity.
