MID-ATLAS CARPETS: ANCIENT KNOW-HOW

The Middle Atlas is a mountain range stretching over some 350 km, from the southwest to the northeast of Morocco, located between the Rif and the High Atlas. It is known for its hilltop villages, the production of wool and its Berber carpet weavers.

Every morning, the women of this cooperative take care of their children, brothers or sisters, and then leave for the village where the workshop is located to give free rein to their creativity or to bring a project of their clients to life.

Some have done some modest studies, others have never done anything other than carpets. Mothers, grandmothers, sisters, they all share something in common: an eye for beauty and invaluable know-how!

The women of the Mid-Atlas know about passion and patience better than anyone. They spend nearly a month making a single rug that will enhance your bedroom or living room.

In the region, everything is done by hand, collecting wool, cleaning it and even coloring it using natural natural materials: often plants, bark...this offers extraordinary, hand-knotted rugs made from thick and resistant pure wool.

Weaving rugs has always been part of their daily life from childhood. The girls in these villages all have to learn this trade in order to be able to help their families or quite simply to have skills in hand that allow them to gain a kind of financial independence.

All the women in the cooperative need this work in order to thrive, improve their working conditions and live with dignity. They work hard, with determination and weave day and night to bring their dreams to life, which they innocently draw on every rug they touch.

As an Atlas Berber living in Hong Kong, it seemed necessary for me to be part of their history, of your history, by making the link between Hong Kong consumers and the wonderful Mid-Atlas weavers. Their talent needs to be supported and brought to light to give them a valuable helping hand.
