Patients diagnosed with cancer go on a difficult journey through diagnostic procedures and treatments. Hereby, they are accompanied by various care providers who need to understand the patients’ needs in order to define the optimal treatment for the individual patient. The PPP survey app helps the patients to better communicate their perceptions and preferences to their care providers. This patient-centered survey includes additional important features such as assessment of quality of life and symptoms. The longitudinal design with different time points for evaluation intends to capture changes in patients’ needs over time in order to allow adjustments of the treatment strategy if needed. The applications is very intuitive and easy to use even for patients with little habitual exposure to smartphone applications. With minimal investment of time from the patient’s side, the care provider will gain maximal insight in what is of importance for their patient. Communication between doctors and patients in complex situations will get much easier by use of the PPP survey, and really shared decision making should hence become possible!
