Due to the Holy Qur’an in the time in which he lived, and his great fame for the distinctive recitation of verses of the Qur’an with Asim’s reading, scholars have adopted the attribution of the narration of Asim’s reading to him.
Who is Imam Asim?
Imam Asim is Asim bin Abi Al-Najood Al-Asadi. He is a reciter from Kufa. He was the sheikh and teacher of reading the Qur’an there. Then Tajweed scholars adopted him as one of the ten most famous reciters, because of his eloquence and skill in intonation, editing, and mastery.
He learned from many students, who later became skilled readers in recitation and intonation, and he was a student of prominent figures who learned from the Companions, who took their readings from the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, including Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami and Zirr bin Hubaish.
Who is the reciter Hafs?
The reciter Hafs is Hafs bin Suleiman bin Al-Mughirah, nicknamed Abu Omar. He learned to read from Imam Asim through direct instruction, as he lived with him. He was his wife's son, so he used to read to him and repeat in front of him until he learned to read skillfully. He was a master of the rules of recitation and intonation, and accordingly he read to many students for a long time until he died.
