THE POLICE ORDER, 2002 (22 of 2002) [14th August, 2002] An Order to reconstruct and regulate the police; WHEREAS the police has an obligation and duty to function according to the Constitution, law, and democratic aspirations of the people; AND WHEREAS such functioning of the police requires it to be professional, service-oriented, and accountable to the people; AND WHEREAS it is expedient to redefine the police role, its duties and responsibilities; AND WHEREAS it is necessary to reconstruct the police for efficient prevention and detection of crime, and maintenance of public order; AND WHEREAS the Chief Executive is satisfied that circumstances exist which render it necessary to take immediate action; NOW, THEREFORE, in pursuance of the Proclamation of Emergency of the fourteenth day of October, 1999, and the Provisional Constitution Order No. 1 of 1999, and in exercise of all powers enabling him in that behalf, the Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is pleased to make and promulgate the following Order:
