At Making Moves Fitness & Dance, we cultivate a love of movement through intentionally curated workouts & classes. Exploring a dimensional approach to wellness, our offerings range from classical Pilates to numerous fitness classes, ballet for adults & teens, and cross-training for dancers. All services are available in class, 1-on-1 sessions, or semi-private formats (virtual options available for personal training and classical Pilates).
Founded by Julia Shove, a classical ballet dancer turned certified personal trainer & Pilates instructor, Making Moves Fitness & Dance has something for everyone, no matter age, ability, or experience. Fitness classes are user-friendly, providing both advancements and modifications for movers of different backgrounds. Classical mat Pilates classes are highly accessible & adaptable with content intended for beginner to intermediate practitioners, as described. Our Adult Ballet Series features three different levels from absolute beginners to former intermediate/advanced dancers.
Unique to Making Moves is the fusion model, a highly comprehensive training approach that combines traditional strength-training with classical Pilates. Making Moves seamlessly marries the length, alignment, and Powerhouse-focused work of Joseph Pilates with the endurance and muscular hypertrophy of conventional training methods... all with insights into body mechanics and kinesthetic “hacks” from 20+ years of ballet training.
The fusion model provides movers with the ability to pair heavy free weights and interval training alongside the low-impact, center-driven practice of classical Pilates. Together, these two methodologies pave the most encompassed path toward greater stability, stamina, strength, and mobility while also increasing bone density and ensuring both physical and mental longevity across the lifespan. Our dance conditioning program, Ballerinas With Biceps, operates in line with these principles, providing dancers with cross-training to elevate their performance to the next level.

Formats include: full-length fitness classes (strength, cardio, barre, mobility), classical mat Pilates classes (beginner & intermediate), Ballerinas With Biceps workouts and monthly programming, and quickie (20-30min) workouts.
