The COVID-19 pandemic has generated an ongoing health, social and economic crisis.


The global pandemic has revealed some weaknesses in Australia's health, social services system and an operating environment that has failed to realise the community sector's contributions and value fully. The prudent public health response to the virus has saved lives, protected healthcare capacity, and continues to provide care to the most vulnerable Australians.

The system has wonderful attributes and faces important challenges.

Firstly, the pandemic has reminded us that poor communication and information channels exist for the culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities in our country.
Secondly, it's reminded us of the vulnerabilities of our ageing populations to social isolation, socioeconomic vulnerability and concurrent chronic diseases. Then there are the vulnerabilities of the homeless, those with a disability, those residing in residential facilities, and our First Nations people.

This pandemic needs to be the catalyst that changes how we view our roles in the delivery of health care and social services, from policymakers to individual practitioners.

The lesson to be learnt is this. Healthcare and social services is a human right and the fundamental principle for the Australian healthcare and social services system. We need system reform, a greater communications and information platform that covers the Australian healthcare system. In response, the AusCare Foundation board of directors have launched MyCare Channel. This is a dedicated information platform.
MyCare Channel educates Australians, and in particular, the CALD communities, about healthcare aged care and disability supports in 25 languages. CALD communities have been identified as having a lack of knowledge, resources, and information about healthcare and support options available.


By utilising all media outlets, including a user-friendly website and online channels, My Care Channel supports consumers, participants, and providers in the aged care, NDIS, allied health markets and clinical through consumable media on all platforms, in 25 languages.

It provides information about existing government initiatives, healthcare provision, supports services options, and recognises culturally informed approaches to community support in health, aged care, and disability.
